Candidate Mocks Mount Albert: Mount Albert Fights Back
Posted: September 30th, 2009 | Author: Daniel J Miles | Filed under: Daniel J Miles | 2 Comments »Some of our readers may remember recently, when Jackson spearheaded an earnest campaign to win the seat of Mount Albert from his stronghold in Wellington. Resoundingly ignored by the mainstream media, the campaign was still a great success, with almost tens of Mount Albert residents swinging in behind Wood.
Unfortunately, Jackson moved house soon after the election. And so, as it turns out, warning letter after warning letter demanding he file a return of expenses was lost in the vast gaping maw of the Wellington postal service. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the electoral commission gets much return to sender mail?
And now the electorate of Mount Albert has had their final revenge against the candidate who described it as a dump on national television.
We received a call only moments ago, fielded by AbsoluteGenius‘s lacklustre secretary Sarah, advising us that Jackson James Wood has been referred to the police for breach of the electoral act.
The AbsoluteGenius machinery of course swung into action promptly, with our legions of interns flying into action, frantically digging up receipts from the vast amount of money spent on this campaign.
Turns out it only felt vast at the time. Apparently we only spent $12 on having badges printed. Unless you have to declare the $300 bond given to the commission as an expense (which we didn’t get back I might add).
So, our form declaring Jackson’s $12 of expenses duly filled out by one of our exclusive brethren volunteers, Jackson then drafted a sufficiently grovelling letter which is now winging its way to the returning officer in his attempt to avoid a prison sentence for not telling the Government the cost of the badges.
Touche, Mount Albert. You win this one.

The ratio of votes per dollar of donated money were quite high in the JJ Wood for Mt Albert campaign.

It was $12.50 and I have just emailed the Chief Electoral office with the return.
I wonder if the scanned $20 note I emailed along with the return will get me out of this mess.
