Imbecilic Intimidation Issues
Posted: October 1st, 2009 | Author: Daniel J Miles | Filed under: Uncategorized | 1 Comment »Poor, disadvantaged Joel Cosgrove and Heleyni Pratley of the Wellington Workers Party are up in arms that they have been trespassed from Victoria University for protesting fee rises, in a press statement entitled Victoria University: No Free Speech Here Thanks.
Wait… hold up a second.
I am against this! They should certainly not be trespassed for simply peacefully protesting something they disagree with, at an institution that does, after all, receive a large amount of public funding.
And apparently students have been charged with misconduct over the protest too! This is appalling.
Their press statement reads “Two students have also been charged with serious misconduct for participating in the protest, at which a few eggs were thrown at university councillors.”
WHOAH. Whoah, whoah, whoah.
So what you’re saying is you DIDN’T peacefully protest. So what you are saying is, INSTEAD of exercising your right to protest like a normal person, you threw eggs at the people you disagreed with? So instead of protesting to get your view out, you used intimidatory tactics and personal harm to punish people for disagreeing with you? And now YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEM RETALIATING?
What the hell world do you people live in. Don’t make yourself out to be a martyr when you’re actually a wannabe bully. Pathetic. Every one of the students protesting has my full support to exercise their right of free speech, but you have no right of free assault. Idiots.
***Update***
In the interests of fairness, which is more than these protesters offer those they disagree with, here is a link to the blog post where the workers party defend their actions, plus the full text of the press release. Click at your own risk, and be prepared for a lot of very long comments by some very self important people.
I resent being called “self important” – I like to think i’m just as important to everyone else as I am to myself.
