This week’s Sunday Star Times posed 50 questions to Prime Minister Key from famous New Zealanders.
Unfortunately, his entire press team were away when he first got the request from the SST. AbsoulteGenius was lucky enough to have been leaked his original answers.
Avid readers – and I’m not convinced there are any, but on the off chance – may have noticed an angry post from me about Radio New Zealand that went up over the weekend. I stand by some of what I said, but I’ve been rung by the Radio New Zealand Communications Head who has corrected me on other parts – so impressive PR from Radio NZ to have picked up on it and dealt with it politely. Here goes:
David Farrar has provided a damning post, mocking Labour’s Darien Fenton for suggesting the rich be fined more than the poor for traffic offences. Full of magnificent mockery, the post however completely ignores (either willfully or accidentally) the real argument behind such a fining regime.
Spock: The Kobayashi Maru scenario frequently wreaks havoc on students and equipment. As I recall you took the test three times yourself. Your final solution was, shall we say, unique?
Kirk: It had the virtue of never having been tried.

For context, he somehow got on the speaking list at an anti-immigration protest, and delivered this:
Let me say up front, I’m a supporter of strike action. If you don’t think you’re being treated fairly by your employer, and discussing it with them isn’t fixing it, then what better way to get the message across that simply refusing to work on their terms. It’s an important part of a functional employment landscape.

I mean, I know that any liveblog invariably contains some sort of messy tirade against the poor bastard providing the technical services for it – in this case, Jackson James Wood’s cellphone hooked up to Telecom’s XT network.
Poor, disadvantaged Joel Cosgrove and Heleyni Pratley of the Wellington Workers Party are up in arms that they have been trespassed from Victoria University for protesting fee rises, in a press statement entitled Victoria University: No Free Speech Here Thanks.

This weekend Daniel and Jackson will embark upon a journey to the undoubted arsehole of New Zealand: New Plymouth—no offense Palmerston North, of course. It was close.
